By Thor 4
I love it when my purchases arrive faster than I expected. I ordered this citric acid on 6/12 and it was in my mailbox on 6/14. Wow! The citric was well packaged in a thick plastic bag that was heat sealed, but still had a zip lock on it so that I could re-seal it. I liked that the crystals were very small, almost like a powder, it should be easier to mix to make my bath bombs. No lumps, no clumps. Nice stuff.

By Ms. S. Jeannie
When I purchased this, it was my very first time ever using citric acid. I purchased for bathroom products (yes, bath bombs and toilet bowl bombs as well). I had no idea what to expect. Well the powder was of a fine grain and mixed with my baking soda extremely well. When I ran out, I picked up another brand at my local health food store. Compared to this, the over-the-counter brand was like mixing small pebbles with the baking soda. Not good at all. The result was that my bombs were crumbly in places and just not the quality I had hoped for. That is why I WILL BE ORDERING THIS PRODUCT AGAIN!!! I now know the difference...and THIS is the one I prefer.

By B. Evans
I use the citric acid in my dishwasher to remove the soap buildup. I put it in the soap dispenser, about 1 tsp. My dishes come clean without that film that can build up. I have found that too much will actually create a film so only use 1/2 to 1 tsp depending on the size of your soap dispenser.

Product Description
We offer 99.9% pure food grade citric acid that can be used in a wide range of applications.
Uses of Citric Acid:
Citric acid is a natural preservative that exists in many different fruits, vegetables and other products. It can also serve as a ph adjuster, which makes it a great ingredient for personal care products, food coloring, and many other solutions.
Many products in the food and beverage industry also use citric acid to add a sour taste. It is a common ingredient that chefs will use in many dishes, including an emulsifier for ice creams, ripening agents for mozzarella cheese, and much more. Home brewers have also been buying bulk citric acid for many years to modify their water when making beer or other beverages.
Of course, citric acid is also used outside the food and personal care industries. It is actually a common additive for concrete to slow settling time, making it easier to work with and manipulate before it sets up.Citric Acid is a food grade acid that is present in many natural foods. It can be used to reduce spoilage in sprouting by adding 1 tsp. per quart to soak and rinse water.

By C. Jackson
I got this for a friend who loves sour things. I figured she'd want to mix it in to drinks and things to make them more biting, but instead she just eats it out of the bag. Some people are pretty weird like that, but if you like sour stuff or need to make something more sour and don't feel like using something a little less space age (like a lemon), this stuff will not disappoint. Or, you know, if you want to just eat citric acid out of a bag.

I bought this item as a replacement for the more.expensive "Fruit Fresh" which I use in emulcified juices I make myself.
With s/h it wasn't cheaper and didn't do a better job of preserving the juices for storage in the frig. And it had a much more bitter after taste than "Fruit Fresh" I still have most of the bottle left
So I don't think I'll buy this again.

By Blinkedty Blank
I add 1 tablespoon to each dishwasher load. The citric acid keeps the mineral deposits in check and the glasses sparkling. Our city water is extremely hard, and the spinners in the dishwasher would get clogged with deposits. Not any longer! I also use it as a neutralizer when shampooing the rugs, but you have to rinse with water afterwards, or it stays a little sticky.
I try to use simple solutions to keep the home clean. This is a safe way to clean.

By Green Desert Home
A 6-10% solution in H20 will clean your toilet and tub/shower just as well as commercial products and for pennies on the dollar. Citric Acid is actually the main ingredient in many tub and shower cleaners. It chelates mineral stains well, and is actually easiest to use sparingly from a spay bottle right after you shower. I just spray a little around, and after I dry off I rinse it with the shower head. It takes about 30 seconds total every other shower, but you never, never need to clean your tub or shower again if you do this. Be careful not to inhale it as it is still mildly irritating. Commercial products add some surfactants to help reduce mist and help it stick to surfaces, but with every-other-day-use I find that the h20 solution keeps the tub and shower perfectly clean and the chrome shiny without any real work. Kills Germs too!
Can also be used as a mild facial peel/scrub.

By Houston, TX
I was reading about how citric acid is an excellent dishwashing additive for dishwashers that leave hard water stains, so I thought I would buy it to see if it would do the trick for my glass shower doors. Glass shower doors are such a nightmare to keep clean, and while daily maintenance helps a great deal, it still needs a good elbow-greasing clean every once in a while. I mixed 1 part citric acid to 6 parts hot water, and mixed it into a spray bottle. I sprayed on my shower door, and with very minimal effort, the scum seemed to slide right off the shower. In Houston, we have EXTREMELY hard water, and I have tried many other things for the shower. Oven cleaner, CLR, every purposeful shower cleaner, etc. But nothing has worked as well as citric acid and water. Next time, I'm buying the bigger container - it looks like citric acid and I will have a long, beautiful relationship!

By Derrick Coetzee
I ordered this when I discovered that citric acid is the primary ingredient in Wyler's Light, a low-calorie drink mix, with the intention of making my own substitute by combining it with sucralose (Splenda). Although this worked, producing a sort of lemonade-flavored low-calorie drink, it turned out to be not economical due to the price of sucralose. However, I've found that it's still great to use citric acid to add tanginess to Wyler's Light flavours that I don't find quite sour or lemony enough, such as the raspberry flavour. With this particular container I usually remove the top entirely when using it so I can use a large spoon and measure out the amount I want precisely using a kitchen scale.

By R. Cross
I started adding citric acid to my dishwasher before every cycle last year after phosphorous-free dishwasher detergents became ubiquitous. I then discovered that it has a lot of other uses around the house:
- Preserves fruit and vegetable color: Apples, pears, banana, potato, avocado, or any other fruit can be kept fresh looking with a light sprinkle of citric acid to prevent oxidation and browning. Sprinkle like salt and then toss lightly. Use sparingly. Correct flavor with some sugar if you overuse.
- Dishwasher additive: Put half detergent and half citric acid in the sealed compartment of the dispenser. This will make your silverware and glassware shine, even in hard water. You won't need a rinse aid, either. Do not clean teflon cookware or fine crystal like this.
- Glassware cleaner: Mineral spots and tea stains dissolve rapidly. Make a mild solution in a dishpan (1 Tbsp per 2 gallons) and soak for 2 or 3 minutes, wipe inside and out with a sponge dampened in the solution, and then rinse.
- Window and shower door cleaner: A stronger solution - 2 Tbsp per gallon of water - will remove hard water stains from windows and glass doors. Rinse well and keep out of eyes. Sensitive skin should be protected. This solution should also remove hard water spots from chrome and nickel fixturing, but I haven't tried it. Yet. (Test on an inconspicuous surface first.)
- Fruit and vegetable rinse: The same strength solution in cold water makes an excellent rinse for vegetables and fruit that may have been exposed to bacteria or mold. It won't "unrot" produce, but it will make produce that has been exposed to rotted stock safer to eat. I use this as a bath for potatoes and root vegetables before scrubbing so that I can keep the skins on...
- Coffeemaker cleaning: removes mineral residue without leaving a vinegary taste in the coffee. Run a medium solution thru a brew cycle: 1 Tbsp per pot of tepid water. Follow with a pot of fresh water to rinse.
- Rust remover: A strong solution (1/4 cup per gallon of water) and a stiff brush will remove rust from cast iron, etc. Rinse the iron item with a mild baking soda solution and then with fresh water. Towel dry and then heat the item gently to evaporate any remaining water, then coat with soy oil (cookware) or light machine oil (tools, etc). If the item is cast iron cookware, proceed with seasoning. Wear gloves, rinse tools well, and dilute the unused mixture before discarding.
- Aquarium pH balance: I haven't tried this, but I suspect this is the same chemical in the "pH Down" solution that I pay a small fortune for in the pet store. Tap water in my neighborhood is very alkaline, almost 7.8 pH, and most fish prefer water closer to 7.0. If you try this, titrate and measure carefully and let me know how your mollies and corie cats tolerate it. :)
This chemical is more useful around the house as Baking Soda. More people should know about it, and maybe then it wouldn't be so hard to find.

Hard water stains in toilet? This is eco-friendly and makes a big dent in the scale. Dishwasher not working up to expectations? Put some citric acid in with the regular detergent and see improvement. Drain running slowly? Dump some citric acid in and let it sit. Then follow with baking soda and the gunk is eaten away. All non-toxic and neutral. Good stuff.

By Comdet
Citric acid is one of those incredibly useful items to have on hand. I use it mainly for cleaning tasks such as:
> cleaning coffee machines - works much better than vinegar at removing hard water deposits.
> cleaning hot water pots - as above. Much easier and less smell than using vinegar.
> cleaning dishwashers - add a couple of tablespoons and run the dishwasher through a cycle when it is empty. Makes the interior sparkle like new.
> boosting dishwasher detergent performance - add a small amount (about a teaspoon or less) to dishwasher detergent. Really boosts the cleaning power and eliminates hazy dishes. Be careful not to use too much, however, since it can pit delicate glass or metal.
> cleaning steam cleaners, steam mops and irons - gets all the crud out.
Basically, this is the best cleaner for anything that is affected by hard water deposits. You can buy commercial products such as Cleancaf or other similar cleaners, but the main active ingredient is citric acid. You can get it bulk at a fraction of the cost.
The only downside is that this comes packaged in a thin plastic sack. The first thing you'll want to do is transfer it to a plastic container with a tight fitting lid. Makes it much easier to store and use. Regardless of the container, citric acid clumps up easily when there's humidity in the air, but that does not affect its performance. Just bust up the clump and you're good to go. The shelf life is indefinite when you use it as a cleaning product.
Highly recommend.

By J. Bush
WOW!!! My dishes have never sparkled like this. My washing machine is clean and smell free. Many uses for this product. Im pretty sure anyone buying this would put it into another container so Im not sure why people complain about packaging.
Im not scientist, only internet research and personal experience. Take my advice how you wish. This is the stuff they put on Sour Patch Kids candy. Even though its edible, be careful not to get it in your eyes.
Dishwasher: If you have hard water build up on your dishes.
Run empty dish washer with 1T. citric acid in each dishwasher cups.
Then, for a few following loads, add one tablespoon to both cups along with your regular dishwasher detergent.
That will EASILY do the trick and you will be amazed. I continue to sprinkle a bit in with every load now and the hard water never builds up.
This is five huge pounds. It will last for a crazy long time.
Washing machine (top load): If you have a smelly washing machine that makes your clothes and towels smell funky...
Completely fill your machine with HOT water.
Throw in about 3-4 tablespoons of citric acid.
Run cycle for 2-3 minutes.
Stop cycle and let it set overnight (about 8-10 hours)
Turn machine back on to finish cycle.
Run a full load of towels with 1 tablespoon of citric acid only. NO detergent.
Run towels again with regular detergent.
This should clear things up. The hot water overnight cycle should be done approx once per month to prevent build-up.
Front load (HE):
I would suggest researching this. The same method as the top load will help, but front load machines can build up nastiness like crazy and need to be wiped and cleaned in different areas.

I bought this because I have really hard well water and my dishwasher cleans but my glasses are cloudy. So I started making my own dishwasher detergent out of a cup of washing soda a cup of boraz a half cup of salt and a half cup of citric acid. It is a wonderful rinse agent. I have also used this to freeze peaches. It keeps the peaches bright in color. Since my glasses are coming out cleaner, I'm happier so citric acid is a great mood enhancer around my home.

I needed to make sour sugar to coat gummi candies and could not find citric acid in stores anywhere. I added this small item to an order for something else and ended my search. It made perfect sour sugar; very fun. I like that it is from a known brand.

Really good price for this. Costs a lot more if bought in the stores. Works as I wanted for my bath bomb making.. I would order it again.
